Our event philosophy.

Many people and organizations believe in the BIG approach. But think about
that. If you have an event with 300 riders, when do you find time, as a
participant, to stop and smell the roses? Take a picture? Enjoy a little
quietness?

At a DixieDualSport event, the focus is on QUALITY, not quantity.
You won’t find big crowds. 10? Fine, 20? Super. 50? No  problem. To us, size
DOESN’T matter. That’s not how we define success. We define success as
the smile on your face when you come back from the ride, and the anticipation
you have of attending the next one. It’s being part of something special. That’
s DixieDualSport.

Why do we limit rider numbers at some events?

Our public lands are shrinking, and our use on those lands is dwindling.
During the permit process, the oversight agency can, and has, limited the
number of participants that we can accept. Which, from an event
management, safety, and environmental impact standpoint is a good thing.
There are also other fees and regulations that must be met and abided by,
and that even includes paying for our own law enforcement officer for event
oversight!

This is one reason we do not give out directions to a starting location for a
limited rider event. It is to prevent people from coming and just “showing up”.
We don’t want, or need, that. It puts the events in jeopardy.

Aside from the land agency restrictions, limited rider numbers do things to
bolster the RESPONSIBLE image. Fewer bikes means less impact to the land,
and less impact to the people who live in the areas where we hold our events.

Remember, people live in these areas. It is no different than having an
event and 100 motorcycles go zooming down your street in your
neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon!

DixieDualSport believes in RESPECT. For the land, and our neighbors.
We view riding as a privilege, not a right or entitlement. We take that privilege
very seriously, and hope you do as well. If we have to worry about our “rights”,
we aren’t living up to our responsibilities.

Types of Events

Point-To-Point Guided Tours
We will begin focusing on small group tours as well as the regular style
events. These tours will be small, completely packaged with food and lodgings
included, with the focus on the individual rider, the group as a whole, and the
experience of the ride. We’ll be targeting specific audiences. No generic
routes, but specific routes for specific types of riders, on specific types of
bikes. Customized for the group.

We’ll be starting it all off with the Cross-Florida Expedition (X-FL), a coast-to-
coast ride across Florida. 2 days, 8 forests, 500 miles. Beginning as the
Atlantic Ocean laps at your tires, ending the first day with your feet in the Gulf
of Mexico, before you head back and on the return trip the next day. Others in
this series include the now epic Dragonslayer and the soon to be released
Canyon Slayer. Think of them as Super-Adventures!

Point-To-Point Self-Guided Tours
Much like described above, these will begin in one location, go somewhere
interesting and stay overnight, then return to the start area the next day.
Riders will receive a roll chart to follow. Their bags will be transported to the
destination, dinner and lodging arrangements already have been made, you
just ride and let Dixie handle the rest. These will still be limited in number of
riders, but will generally be in the 20 rider range. Again, we’re looking at 400-
500 miles round trip. An example of this will be the Old Florida Tour

Grand Tours
Grand tours are a part of the AMA/Dunlop Grand Tour Series. You must be
an AMA member to participate. These have a “start after” and an “end by”
date, usually April 1 through October 31. It allows you to do a route at YOUR
convenience. A self guided tour on YOUR time! Can’t make a certain ride? Do
the Grand Tour. Stop and take pictures of specified locations to prove you
were there, send them to us and receive a Grand Tour T-shirt! Easy! An
aside though, the routes here are generic and not custom tailored, but it
offers a chance to ride. We don’t have one scheduled for 2008, but ideas are
spinning for 2009.

Self-Guided Loop Events
These are the familiar traditional “events” such as Devil’s Creek or the
Alabama Rally, where a route sheet is provided on a particular day and
everyone follows that route on that day. Beginning and ending in the same
spot.
